Partially ulcerated mucosal fragments are lined by stratified squamous epithelium with related dense inflammatory infiltrate of lymphocytes, plasma cells and occasional neutrophils. In some areas, the lymphoid cells look large and atypical. Overall picture is consistent with dense chronic active inflammation but the due to observed enlargement and atypical looking lymphocytes , marker study (CD20, CD3 and Ki-67) is advised for the definitive exclusion of lymphomatous infiltrate masked by the associated marked inflammatory changes.
