Thyroid gland shows nodular hyperplasia where follicles are variable in size, full of thick colloid and lined by mature epithelium. There is focal follicular cystic change. Stroma shows fibrosis, interstitial hemorrhage and cholesterol crystals deposition. One unremarkable parathyroid gland is identified. No evidence of hyperfunction or malignancy.
Neck swelling. C.T revealed nodular goiter.
Total thyroidectomy specimen showing Rt. & Lt. lobes 4.3x2x1.7 cm and 2.5x1.8x1 cm, respectively. Both have intact capsule and multinodular soft cut sections with hemorrhagic and fibrotic areas.
