Microscopic Description
Diagnosis
<p>(1) Gastric mucosa antral type showing mild atrophy of glands and moderate infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells. Some neutrophils are seen infiltrating glands indicating activity. H. pylori characteristic forms are seen colonizing glands. No evidence of intestinal metaplasia, atypia or malignancy. </p><p>(2) Duodenal mucosa showing moderate infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells with scattered neutropils. Villi are intact and are negative for atrophy and ulceration. No evidence of specific granulomas. No evidence of malignancy. </p>
<p>Epigastric pain refractory to treatment. </p>
<p>Two samples were submitted: </p><p>(1) Gastric biopsy: Fragments of collective size 6x5 mm.</p><p>(2) Duodenal biopsy: Fragments of collective size 7x5 mm. </p>
<p><strong><em><u>(1) Stomach, endoscopic biopsy: </u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>H. pylori-associated mild chronic atrophic gastritis with associated minimal activity. </strong></li><li><strong>Negative for intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia and malignancy.</strong></li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><em><u>(2) Duodenum, endoscopic biopsy: </u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Moderate chronic non-specific inflammation with mild inflammatory activity. </strong></li><li><strong>Negative for villus atrophy.</strong></li><li><strong>Negative for dysplasia and malignancy. </strong></li></ul>
