Appendicular lumen is full of food particles and many neutrophils that extend into wall in between the mucosal associated lymphoid tissue together with lymphocytes and plasma cells. Wall appears disrupted and completely replaced by this inflammatory infiltrated in wide areas (perforation). This inflammatory infiltrate extends to peri-appendicular soft tissue with abscess formation. No evidence of specific granulomas. No evidence of appendicular tumors.
Acute appendicitis with intra-operative detected pus collection.
Appendicectomy specimen measured 6 cm long with attached mesenteric fat measuring 2x0.7 cm, showing mucosal ulceration with wall thickness up to 0.4 cm. A cystic area measuring 2.5 cm was sampled.
