<p class="ql-align-justify">Splenic tissue shows dense infiltration by neutrophils, lymphocytes, plasma cells and histiocytes associated with vascular endothelial proliferation with related fibrosis. Wall shows many cholesterol clefts, marked interstitial hemorrhage and lumen of cyst contains hemolyzed blood, suggesting an underlying old hematoma. No evidence of specific granulomas. No evidence of malignancy.</p>
<p>Splenic cyst.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Splenectomy specimen measured 9.5x8x7 cm, showing cyst 7.5x 6x 5 cm, filled with thick material and calcification.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Splenic cystic lesion, splenectomy: </u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Chronic suppurative inflammation (abscess), possibly complicating a pre-existing hematoma with associated fibrosis. </strong></li><li><strong>Negative for malignancy.</strong></li></ul>
