A crateriform, exo-endophytic squamous proliferation with a central keratin plug and peripheral epidermal lipping. The underlying dermis contains broad, pushing nests of well-differentiated atypical squamous cells exhibiting mild anaplasia and mitotic activity, glassy eosinophilic cytoplasm, and extensive keratin pearls, set within a chronic inflammatory infiltrate. Margins of excision are free.

The received specimen consists of a skin ellipse measuring 3 x 2.8 x 1 cm, showing a gray-colored, ulcerated mass measured 1.8 x 1.7 cm. Surgical margins ranged from 0.1 cm to 0.7 cm.
