A benign tumor showing proliferation of fibrocytes and Schwann cells with dominance of the latter. The cells are arranged in short bundles with exuberant palisading of nuclei of Schwann cells. Many ectatic blood vessels are seen. No evidence of atypia or malignancy.
Patient presents with a history of low back pain and right drop foot, corresponding to MRI findings of an intradural mass at the D12 vertebral level that is severely compressing the conus medullaris and proximal cauda equina nerve roots.
Rubbery fragments of collective size 2x1.5x1.3 cm, totally embedded.
