Diagnosis
<p class="ql-align-justify">Smear shows marked number of neutrophils, cell debris, macrophages, plasma cell and lymphocytes admixed with dissociated keratotic squamous cells. No evidence of malignant cells. Picture is suggestive of an inflamed epidermal cyst or inflamed branchial cyst. Confirmatory complete excision of the swelling is recommended</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Retropharyngeal and parapharyngeal abcess.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">One slide was prepared from submitted 5 ml creamy greyish fluid.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Retropharyngeal and Para-pharyngeal swelling, aspiration cytology:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Negative for malignant cells.</strong></li><li><strong>Marked inflammatory cells with keratotic cell, suggestive of branchial or epidermal cyst.</strong></li><li><strong>Recommended for confirmatory excision. </strong></li></ul>
