Microscopic Description
Diagnosis
<p>Focally ulcerated skin with related septic granulation tissue and fibrosis. Base of ulcer shows proliferating capillaries, infiltration by neutrophils, lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages with associated deposition of fibrin. Related subcutaneous fat shows fat necrosis and fibrosis. Inflammation is seen extending to underlying bone. No evidence of specific granulomas. No evidence of malignancy.</p>
<p>Deep distal foot ulcer extending to bone. </p>
<p>Soft tissue and bony fragments of collective size 4x3x1.5 cm. </p>
<p><strong><em><u>Distal foot ulcer, excision:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Active inflammatory ulcer with septic granulation tissue and exuberant inflammation extending to bone.</strong></li><li><strong>Negative for malignancy. </strong></li></ul>
