<p class="ql-align-justify">Smears show a marked acute inflammatory exudate composed predominantly of neutrophils, along with few lymphocytes and scattered histiocytes. No specific granulomas are identified. There is no cytologic evidence of atypia or malignancy.</p>
<p>Synovial fluid for cytology.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Five smears were submitted and stained.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Synovial fluid, conventional cytology:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Marked acute (suppurative) inflammation, highly suspicious for septic arthritis. </strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Negative for malignant cells.</strong></li></ul>
