Smears are hemorrhagic and show abundant thin and thick colloid and scattered bland looking follicular cells. Background also shows scattered hemosiderin-laden macrophages, and lymphocytes. Follow up (clinical and sonographic) is recommended. No evidence of atypical or malignant cells.
Neck swelling, found on ultrasound to have an enlarged left thyroid lobe containing two large, suspicious (TIRADS IV) nodules that displace the trachea to the right.
