Diagnosis
<ul><li>Chromogranin and Synaptophysin show non-specific background staining.</li><li>LCA stains exuberant inflammatory cells.</li><li>CD20 stains scattered lymphoid follicles.</li><li>CK stains normal surface epithelium and dispersed glands.</li><li>KI-67 stains about 20% of cells in hotspots.</li></ul>
<p>Large gastric and caecal ulcers.</p>
<p>Sections from both stomach and colon is immunostained for Chromogranin, Synaptophysin, CD20, LCA, CK and Ki-67 using Ventana BenchMark Ultra autostainer. Ventana Ultra View DAB detection system was used.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Gastric and caecal ulcers, endoscopic biopsies, immunostaining:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Active inflammatory ulceration with exuberant septic granulation tissue and moderate reparative dysplasia, inconclusive for mlaignancy. </strong></li><li><strong>Recommended for follow up (see comment).</strong></li></ul><p><br></p><h5><strong><u>COMMENT:</u></strong></h5><h5>Immunostaining pattern is not supporting the proposed diagnosis of undifferentiated malignant tumor and more in consistency with inflammatory process. However, underlying malignancy can not completely excluded. Hence, follow up endoscopy and rebiopsy after treatment of ulcers may be advised to ensure regressive course of the lesion and to exclude any concomitant more serious pathology that was masked by the active inflammation and ulceration.</h5>
