Smears are hemorrhagic and show a marked number of neutrophils and small lymphocytes with few reactive mesothelial cells. No evidence of atypical or malignant cells.
Large right-sided encysted pleural empyema causing compressive partial lung collapse and mild mediastinal shift, with a high clinical suspicion for tuberculosis.
