Polypoid mucosal fragments exhibit marked stromal edema and a chronic non-specific inflammatory infiltrate of lymphocytes and plasma cells. Proliferative Brunn's nests are prominent within the lamina propria, showing transformation into cystitis cystica and cystitis glandularis with mucinous metaplasia. The lining epithelium is cytologically bland, lacking atypia, pleomorphism, or increased mitotic activity. No granulomas or features of malignancy are observed.
