Intact colonic mucosa with mild reduction in the number of mucigenic cells and moderate infiltration by lymphocytes, plasma cells and neutrophils. Focal superficial erosions are seen. However, crypt abscesses are not identified. No evidence of specific granulomas. No evidence of atypical or malignant cells.
Bleeding per rectum. Colonoscopy: scattered superficial ulcers at the distal sigmoid colon with congestion surrounding mucosa.
Four soft tissue fragments collectively measured 0.8 cm, totally embedded.
Colon, endoscopic biopsy:
