Sections show intact surface stratified squamous epithelium. The underlying subepithelial connective tissue is expanded by an unencapsulated, highly cellular nodular proliferation. The lesion is predominantly characterized by numerous multinucleated, osteoclast-like giant cells evenly distributed within a richly vascularized stroma composed of plump, ovoid-to-spindle-shaped mononuclear cells. Abundant interstitial hemorrhage and extravasated red blood cells are dispersed throughout the background tissue. No cytological atypia or evidence of malignancy is identified.
