The smears are hypercellular, characterized by a dense infiltrate of neutrophils and scattered macrophages set against a background of red blood cells, fibrin, and granular proteinaceous debris. Focal collections of anucleate squamous material and amorphous necrotic matter are present. No evidence of malignancy is observed.

One smear was prepared and pap stained from submitted 2 ml reddish fluid.
