Submitted fragments of acellular, deeply eosinophilic, fibrillar material consistent with partially digested dietary muscle fibers (meat) intermixed with amorphous debris and granular pigment. The fibrillar structures lack preserved nuclear detail. There is a complete absence of viable human tissue components; specifically, no intact stratified squamous epithelium, nucleated skeletal muscle bundles, or minor salivary glands are identified in the examined tissues.
A patient experienced a seizure that resulted in biting off and swallowing a portion of their tongue, and subsequently vomited solid fragments; one of these expelled fragments is being submitted for histopathological analysis to determine whether it is the ingested tongue tissue or food remnants.
