Salivary gland tissue exhibiting severe distortion of its normal architecture. There is near-complete atrophy and loss of the native acini, extensively replaced by dense fibrous connective tissue and infiltrating adipose tissue. There is dense, diffuse, and focally nodular chronic inflammatory cell infiltrate composed primarily of lymphocytes and plasma cells, dispersed throughout the fibrotic stroma. The ductal system shows marked ectasia and prominent periductal fibrosis. Additionally, the lining epithelium of several dilated ducts exhibits squamous metaplasia.
