Diagnosis
<p class="ql-align-justify">Smears shows unremarkable bronchial columnar, superficial squamous cells, pulmonary macrophages and a mild number of neutrophils with some lymphocytes and scattered RBCs. No evidence of atypical or malignant cells.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Four-month history of shortness of breath, chest pain, and an episode of epistaxis. Bronchoalveolar lavage of the right lower lobe and left lingula to evaluate a suspected hilar mass and recurrent right pleural effusion noted on her chest X-ray.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">One smear was prepared and stained from submitted 10 ml reddish fluid. </p>
<p><strong><em><u>Bronchoalveolar lavage, conventional cytology:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Mild inflammatory changes</strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Negative for atypical and malignant cells.</strong></li></ul>
