Microscopic Description
Diagnosis
<p>A meningeal tumor formed of proliferating meningothelial cells showing perivascular pseudopapillary formations. The cytoplasm of these cells is eosinophilic and abundant and cell borders are well-defined imparting an epithelial appearance on tumor. In other areas, the tumor is formed of more classic meningothelial cells with spindle configuration and ill-defined cell borders. The cells in these areas are often patternless but few foci are whorly. Despite cellularity yet mitotic activity is not elevated. Picture is consistent with papillary meningioma.</p>
<p>Lt. Parietal pleural based mass. ? Meningioma.</p>
<p>Fibrotic tissue pieces collectively measured 5.8x5.5x2.5 cm, totally embedded.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Lt parietal dural based mass, Excision:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Consistent with papillary meningioma, CNS WHO grade 3.</strong></li><li><strong>Recommend for confirmatory marker study. </strong></li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>COMMENT:</u></strong></p><h4>This is rare variant of meningioma which is considered a WHO grade 3 meningioma as it may carry a more aggressive clinical behavior with liability for local invasion, recurrence and metastases. Confirmation of tumor type by marker study(EMA, PR, S100, CK, GFAP and Ki-67 ) is advised.</h4>
