Sections from both masses revealed a enign tumor showing proliferation of fibrocytes and Schwann cells with dominance of the latter. The cells are arranged in short bundles with exuberant palisading of nuclei of Schwann cells. Many ectatic blood vessels are seen. No evidence of atypia or malignancy.
Intradural spinal masses attached to nerve roots, clinically suspected to be Schwannomas.
Two biopsies were received:
1- intradural: two soft tissue fragments collectively measured 1.5x1x0.8 cm, totally embedded.
2- Paravertebral: soft tissue mass measured 1.3x1x0.8 cm, totally embedded.
