Appendicular lumen is full of neutrophils that extend into wall in between the mucosal associated lymphoid tissue together with lymphocytes and plasma cells. Such infiltrate extends to periappendicular fat, amounting at abscess formation. Impacted fecolith is noted. No evidence of specific granulomas. No evidence of appendicular tumors.
Perforated appendicitis; was found intraoperatively to have an appendicular mass, with perforation at its base, and an autoamputation.
Received is a 3x0.8 cm perforated appendix with 2 cm of attached mesoappendiceal fat. The serosa is ulcerated and grey. Also received a separate fatty soft tissue fragment measured 2x1 cm.
