Diagnosis
<p class="ql-align-justify">Fragments of mature fibroadipose tissue consistent with omentum. The tissue exhibits marked reactive and ischemic changes, characterized by widened, markedly edematous fibrovascular septa. There is marked vascular congestion with patchy areas of acute interstitial hemorrhage. The stroma is infiltrated by a mixed inflammatory cell infiltrate, with areas of reactive fibroblastic proliferation and organizing fibrosis. There is no evidence of cytologic atypia or malignancy in the submitted material.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">The patient presented with an incarcerated umbilical hernia and underwent a hernioplasty, during which thick, edematous omentum was encountered and sent for histopathological examination.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Three fatty soft tissue pieces collectively measuring 3.5 x 2.8 x 1, exhibiting a fatty cut surface.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Omentum of herniotomy, excision:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Mature adipose tissue exhibiting marked edema, vascular congestion, focal hemorrhage, and reactive inflammation (consistent with ischemic changes secondary to incarceration).</strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Negative for malignancy.</strong></li></ul>
