Mucosal fragments of esophhageal stratified squamous epithelium juxtaposed with ectopic gastric mucosa cardiac type. The squamous segments exhibit significant basal cell hyperplasia, intercellular edema (spongiosis), and a dense intraepithelial eosinophilic infiltrate exceeding 15 eosinophils per high-power field, often forming eosinophilic microabscesses. The glandular component consists of foveolar epithelium and mucinous glands without specialized intestinal metaplasia or dysplasia.
The proximal esophagus contains three small, salmon-colored patches, suggestive of inlet patches.
