Diagnosis
<p class="ql-align-justify">Thyroid gland shows focal dense infiltration by lymphocytes amounting at the formation of lymphoid follicles with intact active germinal centers. Related follicles are degenerated with evidence of oxyphil change of the follicular epithelium. No evidence of malignancy or hyperfunction. </p>
<p>Thyroid gland.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Total thyroidectomy specimen composed of two lobes and an isthmus with an intact capsule. The first lobe measured 8 x 5 x 3 cm, and sectioning revealed almost total replacement by a grey nodule. The second lobe measured 7 x 4 x 3 cm and exhibited a fleshy cut surface. The isthmus measured 1.8 x 1.5 cm.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Total thyroidectomy:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Hashimoto's thyroiditis.</strong></li><li><strong>Negative for malignancy. </strong></li></ul>
