Fragments of a cystic structure with a wall composed of variably thickened, dense fibrovascular connective tissue lined by a single layer of bland, flattened to cuboidal mesothelial cells. The submesothelial stroma shows marked vascular congestion, focal areas of recent hemorrhage, organizing fibrin deposition, and a mild chronic inflammatory infiltrate. Embedded within the fibrotic stroma is refractile foreign material, associated with a foreign body-type tissue reaction and dense reactive fibrosis. There is no evidence of cytologic atypia, increased mitotic activity, or malignancy in the material submitted.
The patient has a history of multiple operations due to a gunshot wound and currently presents with an abdominal inclusion cyst that is adherent to the uterus and invaginating the right ovary.
Cyst received opened and fragmented measuring in aggregate 9.5 x 7.5 x 0.5 cm, the largest fragment measuring 6 x 3.5 x 0.5 cm.
