A benign tumor showing proliferation of fibrocytes and Schwann cells with dominance of the latter. The cells are arranged in short bundles with exuberant palisading of nuclei of Schwann cells. Separating stroma showing focal myxoid changes. Areas of cystic degeneration are seen. No evidence of atypia or malignancy.
Smear is hypo cellular negative for malignant cells.
History of a meningioma. Recent MRI imaging revealed a mass located in the Cerebellopontine Angle with involvement of the brainstem.
Two samples were received:
1- Subtotal resection: soft tissue masses collectively measured 4x3.5x1.5 cm, the largest measured 2.3x2x1.5 cm, totally embedded.
2- Two ml yellowish fluid, one smear was prepared and pap stained.
Cerebellopontine Angle Mass, biopsy and cytology:
