Duodenal mucosal tissue with largely intact villous architecture and areas of surface erosions. The lamina propria shows marked edema and vascular congestion, accompanied by focal hemorrhage. There is a predominantly neutrophilic inflammatory infiltrate, and multiple small blood vessels demonstrate fibrinoid degeneration of the vessel wall with associated leukocytoclasis. Perivascular nuclear debris and extravasated erythrocytes are present. No evidence of granuloma formation, chronic mucosal architectural distortion, or transmural inflammatory changes is identified.
Duodenal biopsy in a known case of Henoch-Schönlein syndrome with epigastric pain.
Soft tissue fragments collectively measured 0.6 cm, totally embedded.
