Three of submitted fragments show atypical round cell infiltrate, showing hyperchromatic nuclei and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, others having eccentric nuclei and eosinophilic cytoplasm. These cells are seen related to extensive surface ulceration. Rest of fragments show moderate infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells. Some neutrophils are seen infiltrating glands with thus indicating activity. H. pylori characteristic forms are seen colonizing glands.
These cells could be histiocytes, epithelial, or lymphoid in nature. Marker study (CD68, CK, LCA, Ki-67 and CD20) is recommended for definitive typing.
