<p class="ql-align-justify">Submitted material is dominantly formed of unremarkable lamellar bone and cartilaginous tissue separated by normocellular bone marrow for age. Few foci showing focal involvement of bone marrow by atypical round cells exhibiting eccentric nuclei, coarse chromatin, and moderate amounts of amphophilic cytoplasm. Picture is suspicious of malignancy, possibly plasma cell myeloma.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Aggressive bone lesion involving the D5 and D6 vertebrae with an associated soft tissue component causing spinal canal stenosis and suspected cord infiltration.</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><br></p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Bone fragments collectively measured 2.5x2.3x1 cm, totally embedded.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify"><strong><em><u>D5-6 vertebral lesion, biopsy:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Bone marrow with few atypical round cells infiltrate, suspicious of malignancy. </strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Recommended for definitive typing by a trial at marker study before considering rebiopsy. </strong></li></ul><p class="ql-align-justify"><br></p><p class="ql-align-justify"><strong><u>COMMENT:</u></strong></p><p class="ql-align-justify">Due to scarcity of the atypical cells, immunostaining could be of no value. However, a trial at marker study (CD138, MUM1, CD20, CK, Synaptophysin) may be attempted before considering more abundant rebiopsy.</p><p class="ql-align-justify"><br></p>
