<p class="ql-align-justify">Partialy ulcerated duodenal mucosa showing almost diffuse villous atrophy as the intestinal villi are significantly shrunken or partially flattened (moderate atrophy). The crypts (glands at the base of the villi) become deeper as the body tries to compensate for lost villi. There is a pathological increase in these lymphocytes within the epithelial lining with follicles. No evidence of specific granulomas. No evidence of atypia or malignancy.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Soft tissue fragments collectively measured 0.7 cm, totally embedded.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Multiple large-sized, clean-based ulcers located in the D1 and D2 segments of the duodenum.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Duodenum, endoscopic biopsy: </u></em></strong></p><ul><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Moderate villous atrophy, consistent with Marsh Class III (3B) according to Marsh-Oberhuber classification of celiac disease. </strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Associated moderate chronic follicular non-specific inflammation. </strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Negative for atypia or malignancy. </strong></li></ul><p class="ql-align-justify"><br></p>
