Intact colonic and rectal mucosa mildly infiltrated by lymphocytes and plasma cells with lymphoid follicles. Mucigenic cells are intact. Some neutrophils are seen infiltrating glands but there is no evidence of crypt abscesses. No evidence of bilharzia ova. No evidence of atypia or malignancy.
Clinical suspicion of intestinal schistosomiasis following a macroscopically normal colonoscopy; rectal biopsy submitted for histopathological confirmation.
