Diagnosis
<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Sections from omental tissue show fibroadipose tissue with moderate inflammatory infiltrates associated with congested and dilated blood vessels. Focal interstitial hemorrhage and patchy fat necrosis are noted. No granulomas or malignant cells are identified.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Four lymph nodes are examined, all showing preserved architecture with reactive follicular lymphoid hyperplasia. Prominent sinus histiocytosis is present. No metastatic deposits or atypical lymphoid proliferation are identified.</li></ul>
<p class="ql-align-justify">A patient presenting with acute intestinal obstruction and secondary peritonitis, found intraoperatively to have rectosigmoid thickening causing the obstruction, biopsy samples obtained from lymph nodes, omentum, and mesentery.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Received is omental tissue measured 7.5x4x0.7 cm. Also received a separate fatty tissue fragment measuring 1.8x1.5x1 cm, entering 4 lymph nodes largest measuring 0.3 cm.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Omentum, biopsy:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Chronic non specific inflammatory changes with vascular congestion, focal interstitial hemorrhage, and fat necrosis.</strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Negative for specific granulomas.</strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Negative for atypia or malignancy. </strong></li></ul><p class="ql-align-justify"><br></p><p><strong><em><u>Lymph nodes, excision biopsy:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Reactive follicular lymphoid hyperplasia .</strong></li><li class="ql-align-justify"><strong>Negative for malignancy. </strong></li></ul>
