<p class="ql-align-justify">Appendicular lumen is distended and appendicular epithelium is extensively ulcerated and reduced in few foci to a flat layer of simple columnar mucigenic epithelium. Areas of ulceration are seen related to dense non-specific inflammation rich in neutrophils, lymphocytes, plasma cells with histiocytes. This infiltrate extends to involve the whole thickness of the thick and fibrotic wall. No evidence of malignancy. </p>
<p>Appendectomy</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Appendicectomy specimen showing appendix 9x1.5cm long with attached mesoappendix measuring 4x1 cm. Opening revealed almost complete replacement of appendix by a cyst measured 8.5 cm filled with briwnish material. Capsule is intact.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>Appendicectomy:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Non-neoplastic mucocele with associated acute on top of chronic chronic appendicitis. </strong></li><li><strong>Negative for epithelial dysplasia or malignancy.</strong></li></ul><p><br></p><h5><strong><u>COMMENT:</u></strong></h5><h5 class="ql-align-justify">This represents a non-neoplastic (simple) mucocele resulting from luminal obstruction. Such lesions are entirely benign and are cured by appendicectomy. No evidence of mucinous neoplasm or extra-appendiceal mucin is identified.</h5>
