Microscopic Description
Diagnosis
<p class="ql-align-justify">CD20 stained residual follicles. CD3, CD5 and CD43 stained wide areas of lymphoid cells. Bcl6 and CD10 stained residual germinal center of follicles but negative on the rest of section. Ki-67 stained almost 100 % of germinal center as well as 10 % of cells in rest of section. Immunoprofile excluding the previously suggested diagnosis of lymphoma and confirming the diagnosis of reactive follicular hyperplasia.</p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Left eye lid mass, excision diagnosed as MALT lymphoma complicating pre-existing lymphoepithelial lesion and marker study was recommended for confirmation. </p>
<p class="ql-align-justify">Sections stained for CD20, CD3, CD5, CD43, Bcl6, CD10 and Ki-67.</p>
<p> <strong><em><u>Eye lid mass, excision and immunostaining:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Reactive follicular hyperplasia. </strong></li><li><strong>Negative for malignancy. </strong></li></ul><p><br></p><p><br></p><h5><strong><u>COMMENT:</u></strong></h5><h5 class="ql-align-justify">Follow up and treatment of underlying causation (mostly chlamydia trachomatis infection) is advised since such lesion may be a precursor for MALT lymphoma if the initiating factor was persistent with the inflammatory process continuing for long intervals.</h5>
