Both biopsies showing extensively ulcerated esophageal mucosa with related dense inflammatory reaction formed of lymphocytes, plasma cells, histiocytes and many neutrophils. Inflammatory infiltrate extends in between underlying submucosa. Few fragments show sheets and groups of degenerated large atypical cells, that could be a part of inflammatory process or could represent a poorly differentiated tumor. Hence, marker study (LCA and CK) is needed to determine the exact differentiation of those groups.
Dysphagia and odynophagiao of 10 days duration, upper endoscopy revealed two clean-based mid-esophageal linear ulcers with elevated edges (at 25 cm and 28 cm from the incisors).
Two biopsies were received:
1- Esophageal ulcer at 28 cm from the incisors: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 1 cm, totally embedded.
2- Esophageal ulcer at 25 cm from the incisors: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 1 cm, totally embedded.
Mid esophageal ulcers, endoscopic biopsy:
