Diagnosis
<p>(1) Tissue sections show a cellular astroglial tumor formed of pleomorphic and dominantly multinucleated cells with separating fibrillary stroma. Many areas show sheets of astroglial cells with abundant peripheral eosinophilic cytoplasm (gemistocytes). Tumor cells are seen arranged radially around foci of tumor necrosis. Tumor is vascular and there is focal evidence of endothelial proliferation with glomeruloid bodies formation. (2) Smear is hypocellular showing few inflammatory cells set in necrotic backround with many cell debris. Overall picture is consistent with glioblastoma multiforme progressing on top of gemistocytic astrocytoma. This is a WHO grade IV tumor.</p>
<p>Frontal lobe brain complex cystic mass. </p>
<p>Two samples were submitted: </p><p>(1) Biopsy: Fragments of collective size 2.5x2.3x0.8 cm. </p><p>(2) Aspiration cytology: One smear was made and pap-stained. </p>
