Sections reveal a localized breakdown of splenic architecture centered around a large area of liquefactive and suppurative necrosis heavily packed with degenerating neutrophils, nuclear dust, and cellular debris. The surrounding splenic parenchyma exhibits marked vascular congestion, extravasated RBCs, fibrin deposition, and a reactive infiltration of macrophages. Other areas show fibroadipose tissue with prominent vascular ectasia, edema, and a secondary acute and chronic inflammatory infiltrate extending from the capsule, without evidence of granulomatous inflammation or malignancy.
