Section shows surface epithelium covered by squamous cells with focal thickened area show loss of upward maturation and exhibit scattered mitosis and mild to moderate anaplasia. Basement membrane is dominantly intact but in few microscopic foci show evidence of subepithelial microinvasion by atypical squamous cell groups. Anaplasia and mitosis are mild to moderate. Peripheral and deep margins are free but close (0.1 cm).
Excision biopsy, exact site was not specified.
One soft tissue fragment measured 0.5x0.3x0.2 cm showing central indurated nodule 0.2x0.2 cm, away 0.1 cm from least peripheral margin and 0.2 cm from least deep one.
Excision biopsy:
Squamous cell carcinoma insitu with microinvasion.
Margins of excision are free but close (0.1 cm).
