Thyroid gland shows nodular hyperplasia where follicles are variable in size, full of thick colloid and lined by mature epithelium. There is focal follicular cystic change observed in the both lobe sections. Stroma shows fibrosis, interstitial hemorrhage and cholesterol crystals deposition. One unremarkable parathyroid gland is identified. No evidence of hyperfunction or malignancy.
Multinodular goiter.
Total thyroidectomy specimen with an intact capsule, consisting of two lobes and three separate gray nodules: The first lobe 9.5 x 5 x 4 cm contained multiple nodules ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 cm. The second lobe 9 x 5.5 x 4 cm similarly contained multiple nodules ranging from 0.5 to 2.3 cm. The largest of the three separate nodules measured 3.5 x 2 cm.
