Myometrial tumor are benign leiomyomas formed of whorly bundles of mature smooth muscles separated by a fibrous stroma. Endometrium is hyperplastic and non-secretory. It is formed of mildly branching glands separated by cellular stroma and lined by 1-2 layers of cells. No evidence of complex glandular pattern. Some of hyperplastic endometrial glands are seen embedded within superficial myometrium. Cervix show mild endocervicitis. Left ovary shows corpus luteum cyst. Fallopian tubes are unremarkable. No evidence of specific granulomas. No evidence of atypia or malignancy.
Severe menorrhagia with fibroid uterus.
Received was a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy and right oopherectomy specimen. The uterus measured 10 x 7 x 6 cm with a 3 cm cervix, a 0.5 cm thick endometrium, and a 3 cm thick myometrium that was distorted by multiple fibroids (largest 5.5 x 4.8 cm). Left ovary measured 3 x2 x 1.5 cm, showing a unilocular cyst measured 2 cm. The right and left fallopian tubes measured 5 cm long, each.
