(1) Esophageal biopsy shows focal glandular metaplasia of the covering squamous epithelium. Glands are of the gastric type and there is related mild infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells. No evidence of atypia or malignancy.
(2) Gastric mucosa showing mild glandular atrophy with moderate infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells. Lymphocytes aggregate in some foci to form lymphoid follicles with active germinal centers. Neutrophils are seen infiltrating glands thus indicating activity. H. pylori characteristic forms are present. There is no evidence of intestinal metaplasia, atypia or malignancy.
Endoscopic biopsies for erosive reflux esophagitis and severe non erosive pangastritis with suspicious area at cardia.
Two biopsies were received:
1- Esophageal biopsy: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 0.6 cm, totally embedded.
2- Gastric biopsy: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 0.6 cm, totally embedded.
