A cellular tumor showing wide areas of necrosis entrapping proliferating round to ovoid cells arranged in sheets and solid nests. Focally, tumor cells are arranged around blood vessels imparting pseudorosette pattern. Tumor cells are mostly cuboidal. Superimposed inflammatory infiltrate is seen formed of neutrophils and lymphocytes. Picture is consistent with infarcted pituitary adenoma with superimposed inflammation. No evidence of malignancy.
Sellar and suprasellar mass, infiltrating sphenoid sinus, compresses the optic chiasm and encased the cavernous sinuses.
Two samples were received:
1- Biopsy from pituitary area: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 1x0.9x0.5 cm, totally embedded.
2- Biopsy from sphenoid area: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 3x2.5x0.7 cm, totally embedded.
