Sections from both ovaries show a malignant tumor formed of solid and cribriform groups as well as abundant papillary configuration with fibrotic cores and covered by non-mucigenic columnar cells that show focal stratification and piling up. Anaplasia and mitosis are marked. Foci of necrosis are detected. The tumor infiltrates the ovarian capsule, with one fallopian tube detected encircled and infiltrated by the tumor. The endometrium is non-secretory; it is formed of slightly branching glands lined by 1-2 layers of cells. Stroma is cellular. Islands of these endometrial glands and stroma are seen entrapped deep within the myometrium. The cervix shows moderate endocervicitis. The omentum is free of metastatic deposits.
Tumor Summary:
Bilateral ovarian masses.
Panhysterectomy specimen; the uterus measures 5x4x4 cm with myometrial thickness of 2 cm and endometrial thickness 0.4 cm, cervix is 1.3 cm long. Also received in the same container two separate ovaries and omentum; the first ovary measuring 8x6x5 cm with an attached fallopian tube measuring 5 cm. Gross sectioning shows a firm gray-tan solid mass measuring 7x5x4.5 cm. The second ovary measured 9x7x4 cm. Gross sectioning showing a necrotic gray-tan mass measured 6x5x4 cm, with a cystic area ~ 3x5x4 cm filled with yellowish fluid. No Fallopian tube identified. Both ovarian capsules are infiltrated by tumor. The omental tissue pieces are collectively measured 35x25x1.5 cm. Representative sections were taken for examination.
