Rt and Lt thyroid lobes show nodular adenomatous hyperplasia. Nodules are variable in size and composed of small and large crowded follicles full of thick colloid and lined by mature epithelium. Sections from some of the nodules show compact microfollicles devoid of colloid and lined by cuboidal cells separated by delicate vascular stroma. In these follicles nuclei are vesicular and look active but no appreciable mitosis. Stroma shows mild fibrosis. No evidence of hyperfunction or malignancy.
Lt lobe thyroid node. FNAC revealed atypical cytology suspicious of follicular neoplasm with atypia.
Two specimens were received:
1- Rt thyroid lobe: measured 3.8x2x1.8 cm. Serial sectioning revealed 3 colloid nodules largest measured 2.3x1.8x1.8 cm, totally embedded.
2- Lt thyroid lobe: measured 3.7x1.8x1 cm, showing one grey nodule measuring 3.7x1.8x1 cm.
