Diagnosis
<p class="ql-align-justify">Smears show a predominantly inflammatory background composed of abundant neutrophils with admixed lymphocytes and macrophages in a background rich in granular necrotic and proteinaceous debris with bile pigment and red blood cells. Occasional degenerating epithelial cells and cell fragments are seen but lack cytologic atypia.</p>
<p>Obstructive jaundice underwent ERCP with stent.</p>
<p>Two smears were prepared from submitted 1 ml brown viscous fluid.</p>
<p><strong><em>ERCP guided aspiration cytology</em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Category II – Negative for malignancy (Benign / Inflammatory lesion)</strong></li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>COMMENT</strong></p><h5 class="ql-align-justify">Findings consistent with an inflammatory process with hemorrhage; no cytomorphologic evidence of malignancy identified.</h5>
