1- Gastric mucosal fragments with mild atrophy of glands and showing moderate infiltration by lymphocytes and plasma cells. Neutrophils are seen infiltrating glands thus indicating activity. H. pylori characteristic forms are seen colonizing glands. Focal intestinal metaplasia is noted. No evidence of atypia or malignancy. Since cytotoxin-producing H. pylori are capable of inducing complications, their serological detection is recommended.
2- Intact colonic mucosa with mild reduction in the number of mucigenic cells and mild infiltration by lymphocytes, plasma cells and neutrophils. However, crypt abscesses are not identified. No evidence of atypical or malignant cells.
Erosive gastropathy and hyperemic rectal mucosa.
Two biopsies were received:
1- Gastric biopsy: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 0.7 cm, totally embedded.
2- Rectal biopsy: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 0.6 cm, totally embedded.
