Partialy ulcerated mucosal fragments by nests, sheets, and syncytial clusters of malignant epithelial cells with indistinct cell borders, vesicular nuclei, prominent nucleoli, and moderate amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm. The tumor is intimately admixed with a dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate, imparting a lymphoepithelioma-like appearance. Tumor cells infiltrate the lamina propria and superficial skeletal muscle. Mitotic figures are readily identified.
