Microscopic Description
Diagnosis
<p>Sections from both masses show focally ulcerated bladder mucosa with associated dense involvement by granulomas around viable bilharzia ova. Granulomas are rich in eosinophils, lymphocytes, plasma cells, many multinucleated giant cells and some neutrophils. Inflammation extending to deep muscle layer. No evidence of atypia or malignancy.</p>
<p>Urinary bladder masses.</p>
<p>Three biopsies were received :</p><p class="ql-align-justify">1- Ureteric orifice mass, biopsy:<strong> </strong>Soft tissue fragments collectively measured 1x0.8x0.5 cm, totally embedded.</p><p class="ql-align-justify">3- Deep muscle, biopsy: soft tissue fragments collectively measured 0.9x0.8x0.6 cm, totally embedded.</p><p class="ql-align-justify">3- Posterolateral mass, biopsy: soft tissue fragment measured 1x0.8x0.6 cm, totally embedded.</p>
<p><strong><em><u>(1), (2) & (3) Ureteric orifice, posterolateral bladder masses and deep muscle:</u></em></strong></p><ul><li><strong>Chronic active bilharzial granulomatous cystitis.</strong></li><li><strong>Negative for malignancy. </strong></li></ul>
